Blog for Iowa: Homelessness on the Rise in Iowa, Families Affected Most

Just over 21,000 Iowans were homeless during 2005, an increase of 2,688
people since 1999. Families with children now make up the majority of all
homeless households in Iowa.
In Polk County, which had the largest homeless population, about 6,000 Iowans were living in shelters, transitional housing, on the streets or in other places not designed for human habitation.
